After some medical hiccups last week (and advice to limit screen time as my vestibular system recovers), my energy level dropped but passion doubled. I got so much studio work done. I tried new mark making techniques, built new colors, and attempted to accomplish something I’ve long dreaded: the self portrait. Gasp.
I built a dark chromatic navy black from burnt senna, primary magenta, and Prussian blue. I used it for the ground for a few experiments with wiping: using silicone and metal blades.
This main work is drying under my bed until the walnut oil I used can set up enough to move. The work will be called something TBD. (Update: it is now drying vertically and pictured below)
Here’s a gallery of my wiping and other recent work I used to distract myself during the recent challenges.
and this is my self portrait.

It’s nightmarish but I don’t hate it as much as I thought I would. Something in the fractures above a grounding of some weight resonating.
The freshly made, custom background color upon which I painted, wiped, dripped, and pulled my fingers across:

As if 8/5/2025 it’s getting light and better oxidation on the back of my door.
