I’m not worthy of putting my stuff next to the last images I posted but..
”Descent” I worked on for most of June of 2026. I have a very specific narrative that began with, but in the tradition of Abex, I am going to trust the viewer to find whatever story it conjures for them.
But I will share how I went about the process. Not because I have anything to teach but because this is how I’m learning myself.
Inspired after visiting newman’s “Stations of the cross” his zips unlocked something.
So, basically I wanted to split a canvas in a imperfect 45-55 division. With the bottom 5% being similarly split and providing light and heat to a suffocation of darkness above, surrounding, and encroaching on my pillar or path. Below are the process photos of my layering upon layers, including blue crayon (fail) and a ivory black with egg yolk medium on top of vibrant reds which I alternatively subtracted from or built up.
The first photo is the final piece. But everything else are shots from oldest to newest (including some taken by a real photographer who was there for other purposes).

Here’s what a real photographer takes
